Former Myers Park High track and field coach faces 18 charges

Police say they are investigating whether there are more victims or witnesses

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A former Myers Park High School track and field coach was arrested Tuesday and charged with 18 felonies related to sexual abuse of students.

Police say Marquavis Coletrane faces 10 counts of statutory rape of a person 13, 14 or 15 years old, four counts of indecent liberties with a student, two counts of sexual activity with a student, one count of attempted statutory rape of a person 13, 14 or 15 years old, and one count of attempted sexual activity with a student.

According to arrest warrants, the alleged incidents happened between 2018 and 2022 and involved six victims. Warrants state that all of the victims were female student-athletes.

Coletrane, 33, was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail and was given a $560,000 secured bond.

CMPD says detectives are actively investigating the case and are asking anyone who may have additional information to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools released a statement saying Coletrane was a former track and field coach at Myers Park High School. The statement said Coletrane was hired in 2018 and resigned in March 2022.

"CMS is fully cooperating with CMPD in its investigation. The district will continue to support the CMPD investigation and will take appropriate action as the investigation continues," the statement said.

In a separate statement, Myers Park High School Principal Mark Bosco said, "I am deeply disturbed by the allegations against Mr. Coletrane. The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and we are committed to providing a safe learning environment for all of our students."
