Early Life and Career

Donnell Thompson was born on July 2, 1958, in Dallas, Texas. He attended North Texas State University, where he was a standout defensive lineman. Thompson was drafted by the Colts in the first round of the 1980 NFL Draft.

Colts Career

Thompson quickly became a force on the Colts' defense. He was known for his strength, quickness, and ability to disrupt opposing offenses. Thompson was a key member of the Colts' "Sack Pack" defense, which led the NFL in sacks in 1984. Thompson was a three-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro selection during his time with the Colts. He was also a member of the Colts' Super Bowl III championship team in 1970.

Post-Football Career

After retiring from football, Thompson worked as a coach and a scout. He also served as the Colts' director of player personnel from 2000 to 2005. Thompson was inducted into the Colts' Ring of Honor in 2009. He was also a member of the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame.
